THUNDER BAY — Just weeks after ex-Thunder Bay resident Ray Lalonde finished an impressive 13-game winning streak on Jeopardy, the city got its own plug on the popular quiz show.

Under the category "Worst case Ontario," contestants were challenged to answer the question: "Worst case? Ill-tempered aquatic creatures emerge from this Great Lake upon which Thunder Bay sits."

Jake DeArruda, a delivery dispatcher from Vermont, pressed his buzzer first and after hesitating a few moments correctly responded "Lake Superior."

DeArruda, with one win already under his belt, went on to win the game and the right to compete again in the show that will be televised Tuesday evening.

This wasn't the first time Thunder Bay received exposure on Jeopardy.

In 2017, one of the answers was "Lying on the shore of Lake Superior, this Ontario city was created in 1970 from the twin cities of Port Arthur and Fort William."

Thunder Bay tourism manager Paul Pepe said "every bit of interesting and positive news or stories helps tell the bigger story of our city."

He suggested that some Jeopardy viewers will have Googled the city's name after watching the show.

"When you do a Google search on Thunder Bay, a lot of great information pops up right away, and it helps get the word out there," Pepe said.

"People are always hometown proud when they see Thunder Bay out there, particularly on a show like Jeopardy, which has a big following throughout North America."
