HAMILTON - A Thunder Bay woman sought in connection with the death of a Hamilton resident has been arrested. Larissa Shingebis, 26, will face a murder charge in the death of Gladys Litle, 79.

Hamilton police said they received information from staff at a local shelter that Shingebis was staying there, and took her into custody Sunday morning without incident. She will be formally charged with first-degree murder Monday morning, police said in a release.

Shingebis is originally from Thunder Bay and was involved in a local homicide in 2014, police noted. She later pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon in the case, while two men pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Shingebis was seen exiting Little's Hamilton apartment building on May 15. Little was found dead the following day. The two were not known to one another, police said.

Shingebis's name and photo were released to the public "due to the random and violent actions of Shingebis in the murder."

"Gladys Litle’s family have been notified of the arrest which has provided them with some [consolation] that their mother’s killer is no longer a threat to anyone else," Hamilton police said.
