THUNDER BAY -- The Ontario Historical Society has given the Thunder Bay Public Library an award for its leadership in spearheading a community partnership to commemorate the centennial of the First World War.

The Dorothy Duncan Award was presented over the weekend at the OHS general meeting in Toronto.

Community Hub Librarian Jesse Roberts accepted the award on behalf of the TBPL.

It recognizes a not-for-profit organization that has demonstrated an outstanding level of service to its region.

Under the leadership of the TBPL and Roberts, the World War One Thunder Bay Centennial Project is a four-year (2014-2018) cooperative community partnership to document the impact of the war on the city and region.

Members of the partnership contribute photos and documents to a web exhibit depicting life in the Lakehead area during the war years.

Other partners include the City of Thunder Bay Archives, the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, the Thunder Bay Military Museum, the Thunder Bay Museum, the Northwestern Ontario Aviation Heritage Centre, Lakehead University, the City of Thunder Bay Heritage Advisory Committee, the Lakehead Social History Institute and a number of citizens.
