THUNDER BAY -- Budgetary responsibility and low municipal debt are just a couple factors being credited for an improvement in Thunder Bay's credit rating.
The city announced Thursday S and P Global Ratings has upgraded the city's ranking from "double A minus" to "double A."
Treasurer Linda Evans said the upgrade shows city staff are spending public dollars responsibly and she added the improved score could mean more business for the city.
“Definitely our strong budgetary performance, our excellent liquidity measures, meaning that we have good access to cash if we needed it,” Evans said.
“A positive rating of this nature may be looked at by potential investors as a source of information on investment from an investment perspective.”
Evans added the improved score will also benefit the city when it comes time to borrow money.
