BRADENTON, Fla. -- TBNewswatch has learned Thunder Bay's Jack Pineau has made the Canadian men's junior national baseball team and will play for gold at the upcoming WSBC's U18 Baseball World Cup.

Canada opens the tournament on Friday against Korea in Bradenton, Fla.

Thunder Bay twice hosted the event, in 2010 and 2017, which included the likes of future major leaguers Francisco Lindor, Jorge Soler, Nolan Gorman and Canadian reliever Rowan Wick.

Pineau is the first Thunder Bay product to make the Canadian junior team since Chris Toneguzzi in 2001.

Canada opens play on Friday against Korea, followed by Brazil, the Netherlands and the powerhouse United States.
