THUNDER BAY, Ont. -- ThunderCon, with the uncharacteristic help from the infamous Darth Vader, is supporting the community in the form of a donation to the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program.
St. John Ambulance representatives received the $1,000 donation this week, which was raised through various charity fundraisers and an on-site penny auction during the ThunderCon event. Included in the $1,000 is a generous $500 donation from another fan-favourite villain -- the Game of Thrones Night King (Richard Brake).
“It was just wonderful to be part of an event like this,” said Brian Edwards, Director of St. John Ambulance. “It’s an event that is so inclusive and welcoming for all different types of people. There was Dungeons and Dragons, Cosplayers, video game guys and even therapy dogs. ThunderCon is all about inclusiveness and that’s what our program strives for as well.”
Vendors and sponsors of ThunderCon donated items like artwork, custom crafts, models and games for the penny auctions.
“We were delighted to partner with the Therapy Dog program,” said Heather Dickson, ThunderCon Media Director. “They do so much good work in the community, but are often ‘under the radar.’ They were the real heroes at ThunderCon.”
