Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Thunder Bay

High winds and nickel-sized hail could descend on portions of Northwestern Ontario on Monday.

THUNDER BAY – Environment Canada says a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the City of Thunder Bay.

The government weather agency on Monday morning said conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour. Nickel-sized hail is also a possibility.

The watch is extended for portions of Northwestern Ontario, including Thunder Bay, Atikokan and Upsala.

The bad weather is expected to arrive in the afternoon and early evening.
