Thunderwolves down Brock on road

ST. CATHARINES, Ont.  – The Lakehead Thunderwolves are one step closer to clinching a first-round bye.

The Wolves downed the third-place Brock Badgers 4-1 on Saturday afternoon to open up a three-point advantage on their opponent in the race for second place in the OUA West.

Keighan Gerrie, coming off a hat trick on Friday night, scored his 13th of the year to help pace the LU attack, the T-Wolves (17-6-3) to a third straight win.

Lakehead is tied atop the OUA West with Windsor, with 37 points, but the Lancers maintain two games in hand.

Josh Van Unen, Spencer Blackwell and Ben Badalamenti also scored for the Thunderwolves, the latter into the empty net.

Brock, who can finish no worse than fourth, dropped to 17-8-0.

Max Wright picked up the win in nets for Lakehead, while Mario Peccia took the loss.

Lakehead plays Windsor on Thursday night at the Gardens to wrap up the OUA regular season.
