TORONTO – Billy Moskal scored once and added three assists and Ben Woodhouse had a pair of goals and a helper as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues drubbed the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves 9-3 on Friday night.

It marked the second straight defeat for the Thunderwolves to mark their return to action of OUA team sports, following an elongated Christmas break due to COVID-19 protocols.

The Varsity Blues (3-4-0) used special teams to power their offensive attack, scoring four times in eight power-play chances to pull even with Lakehead (3-7-0) in the OUA West with six points, with three games in hand.

The Thunderwolves stormed out to a 2-0 lead on power-play goals by Joe Mack and Griffen Fox, the first coming at 4:27 of the first, the second 3:45 later.

But by the time the first came to a close the Varsity Blues were up 4-2, scoring four goals in a 10:19 span, adding two more in the first half of the second to take a 6-2 advantage.

Noah Massie finally stopped the onslaught, at least momentarily, beating Alex Bishop for his first OUA tally, the goal coming at 13:38 of the second.

It was all Toronto from there, a trio of third period goals putting the game well out of reach.

Owen Robinson, Danny Kalic, Steven Elliott, Ryan Reaves, Nick Grima and Cole Purboo also scored for Toronto.

Bishop made 33 stops to pick up the win, while Blake Weyrick allowed all nine goals for LU, stopping 52 of 61 shots directed his way.

The Wolves finish off their current road trip on Saturday night with a rematch against the Varsity Blues.
