NORTH YORK, Ont. -- On the day they found out who their new coach will be, the Lakehead Thunderwolves were in a tight battle through three quarters, but just couldn't hang on in the fourth.

The women's basketball team found itself tied 57-57 in the fourth, but the host York Lions went on a 14-0 run at that point of the contest and went on to down the T-Wolves 79-68 on Friday night.

Lakehead led by two after three.

Lily Gruber-Schulz and Ally Burked paced the Thunderwolves offence with 18 points apiece, but were the only two players to hit double-digits.

Earlier in the day the school announce Hugo Boisvert will take over the team in 2023-24, replacing long-time coach Jon Kreiner. Dave McCallum, an assistant under Kreiner, was handed the reins on an interim basis.

Kiara Leveridge led the Lions with 18, Cynthia King and Lauren Golding adding 17 each.

Lakehead is now 1-14, while York climbed closer to .500, improving to 7-8. The two teams tip-off again on Saturday night at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
