THUNDER BAY -- A reminder to the public that daylight saving time is set to begin early Sunday morning.

Clocks will spring ahead one hour starting at 2 a.m. as Canadians get set for spring and summer to arrive. First proposed by U.S. statesman Benjamin Franklin in the late 18th century, daylight saving time is used in most regions of North America and most of Europe.

It was first put into practice in Germany and Austria in 1916, although the Ontario community of Orillia introduced in several years earlier.

Daylight saving time will come to its annual conclusion on Nov. 5.
