THUNDER BAY - A Toronto man is facing drug-trafficking offences following a disturbance early Thursday morning at a Pearl Street residence.

Jaelen Sandiford, 25, appeared by video in Thunder Bay bail court on Thursday morning before Justice of the Peace Jennifer Neill.

Sandiford was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property not exceeding $5,000.

Police say the incident came to their attention just before 1:30 a.m. after officers were called to check on the welfare of a resident at a home in the 200-block of Pearl Street.

Officers entered the home to inform those inside they were unwelcomed, according to a police news release.

Further investigation revealed there were a number of people inside the home, likely unwanted, police said. During this time, officers also observed evidence of drug-trafficking.

The accused was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and nearly $2,200 in Canadian currency. He was also found with drug trafficking paraphernalia.

The accused will remain in custody with his next court date on Friday, June 12.
