About 40 people who work in Thunder Bay's tourism industry have learned how to provide better services to tourists.
An annual one-day training session aims at providing tourism industry employees with a greater ability to provide visitors with exceptional information services.
City tourism manager Paul Pepe said the educational road trip gives training a geographical context.
“A lot of the visitors will be coming to the front desks of the hotels where these staff work and they will be asking them ‘well how do I get here, and how do I get there?’” Pepe said during an interview with CKPR Radio.
“For a lot of these people, in particular those who are new to the tourism industry, (the educational road trip) will give them a chance to visualize physically where some of these attractions are and what they’re all about.”
An estimated 500,000 people visit the city every year.
