THUNDER BAY — Investigations are underway after an apparent collision that damaged the Canadian National Railway overpass on Highway 61 near Thunder Bay Airport.
The highway was to be closed to traffic in both directions, north of the Broadway Avenue intersection, from noon until about 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, forcing motorists to take a detour.
An OPP spokesperson said detours would be posted.
Photos indicate the underside of the bridge was struck by an over-height vehicle, leaving some structural damage as the cladding along the south-facing edge of the overpass was pulled away.
OPP said the collision happened sometime on Monday, November 4.
They are asking anyone with video footage or information about the incident to contact them, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
CN has closed the rail line while it makes repairs to the overpass, but said "there is no impact to CN mainline operations."
