THUNDER BAY — The City of Thunder Bay has made a slight change in its plans for reconstructing the busy intersection of Memorial Avenue and the Harbour Expressway.
Motorists should expect to encounter detours and delays.
Overnight work and the partial closure of the intersection begins Monday evening, which is a day earlier than previously announced, and will continue until Saturday.
From May 27 until June 1, the intersection will be partially closed each day between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The city explained in a news release Monday that the intersection will be closed on Memorial Avenue on both Monday and Tuesday nights, but through traffic will still be allowed on the Harbour Expressway.
Later in the week, the road closure will shift to the Harbour Expressway, while through traffic will be permitted again on Memorial.
Some partial lane closures will also be in place for the next several weeks during daytime hours.
The city said work that requires closure of the intersection is taking place overnight in order to minimize disruption to the public.
Further overnight closures are expected in the last week of June, but the project is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
The work includes rebuilding existing traffic signals and associated underground infrastructure that have reached end-of-life, and repaving the intersection.
