Traffic stop leads to drug charges

ATIKOKAN, Ont. – A 39-year-old from Atikokan faces drug charges following a traffic stop on Highway 11B.

According to OPP, police conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 11B, which resulted in charges.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested and the vehicle was searched.

Police located crystal methamphetamine, Purple Down and evidence to support that the substances found were being trafficked.

Police said Purple Down is a highly potent narcotic combination believed to be linked to several overdose incidents in the Thunder Bay area.

The driver has been charged with failing to comply with a judicial release order, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking – schedule 1, and seek or obtain schedule 1 substance (double doctoring).

The 39-year-old from Atikokan will appear in court on June 17 to answer to these charges.
