Traffic stop leads to drug trafficking charges

GERALDTON – A traffic stop on Highway 11 has resulted in drug trafficking charges three individuals

According to a release, Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 near Geraldton on Wednesday as a result of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in the community.

Police say the traffic stop led to the arrest of the driver and two passengers.

Police seized a quantity of drugs including cocaine and methamphetamine along with about $1,000 in cash.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $10,000.

Police arrested and charged 56-year-old Guy Fortier of Geraldton with two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.

Catherine Hardy, 39, of Longlac has also been charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.

A 36-year-old Natasha Shaganash of Longlac was also charged two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purposes of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.

All three accused made a brief court appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on July 1 by video to answer to the charges and were remanded into custody.
