Traffic stop leads to impaired driving charges in Atikokan

A report of a possible impaired driver resulted in charges for one Atikokan man.

ATIKOKAN – A 36-year-old Atikokan man is facing impaired driving charges.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, officers received a report of a possible impaired driver in Atikokan.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

While speaking with the driver, police say, he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The man performed poorly during a field sobriety test and he was arrested and taken to detachment for further tests with a drug recognition expert.

As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old, of Atikokan was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol or drugs.

His vehicle was impounded for seven days and received a 90 day drivers licence suspension.

The driver was released and scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 27 to answer to the charges.
