THUNDER BAY - Several people, including two Thunder Bay women, are facing numerous drug charges after a traffic stop results in the seizure of drugs, weapons, and cash.
Thunder Bay Police Service said in a release issued on Thursday that the Guns and Gangs Unit, along with the Drug Unit and Community Response Team, conducted a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon just after 5:30 p.m. on the 200 block of North Harold Street. Two women and two males were arrested on drug related charges.
At 6:45 p.m. a search warrant was executed at a residence on the 100 block of North McKellar Street where another male was taken into custody.
Following a search, police seized cocaine and marijuana with an approximate value of $20,000, along with $10,000 in Canadian currency and three loaded handguns. Police said one of the handguns had the serial number filed off.
Police arrested a 34-year-old woman and a 38-year-old woman from Thunder Bay who have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. One of the women is also facing an additional charge of obstructing a peace officer.
A 20-year-old man from Pickering, Ont. is facing two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, tampering with the serial number of a firearm, failure to comply with recognizance, and two counts of breach of probation.
A 19-year-old man from Toronto, Ont. is facing possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, tampering with the serial number of a firearm.
A 17-year-old male from Mississauga, Ont. is also facing two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, tampering with the serial number of a firearm.
The three men and one woman have been remanded into custody. One of the women has been released and will appear in court at a future date.
