Transit riders better start digging for dimes.

As of April 1, Thunder Bay Transit it hiking its one-way cash fares by 10 cents, from $2.50 to $2.60, the first increase in three years.
It wasn’t a decision the municipally owned organization made lightly, said planning and marketing analyst Jon Hendl, reached by phone on Monday.

“We make every decision based on an educated budget planning process and we try to keep it to a minimum,” Hendl said.
The money will be used to keep service reliable, that facilities and equipment are in top working order and to ensure better communications with the riding public.

Ticket and monthly bus pass sales are not affected by the increase, Hendl added, saying he understands it might not be as convenient having to find that extra 10 cents each trip, but the added revenue is necessary to keep operations running smoothly.
