THUNDER BAY — A truck driver from Winnipeg has been charged after a collision at Sistonen's Corner that sent a Shebandowan resident to hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The 61-year-old woman sustained a leg injury in a collision between the minivan she was driving and a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Highway 102.
She was proceeding westbound on Highway 11/17 while the transport truck was exiting Highway 102.
OPP have charged the 26-year-old trucker with failing to yield to traffic on a through highway.
The collision disrupted traffic in the area for several hours.
The Ministry of Transportation in 2021 announced an evaluation of the intersection after some serious collisions, and subsequently added a flashing red beacon to a Stop Ahead sign for westbound traffic approaching the intersection from Highway 102.
The ministry said lighting upgrades were also planned.
