Transport driver charged in February 2021 crash

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 35-year-old Brampton, Ont. man with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death in incident that claimed the life of a 69-year-old Schreiber, Ont. man.

MARATHON, Ont. -- A driver involved in a February 2021 fatal collision near Marathon, Ont. has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Prabhjot Cheema, 35, of Brampton, Ont., is expected to appear in court on Jan. 20.

Ontario Provincial Police were called to a crash scene about 30 kilometres west of Marathon on Feb. 13, 2021, after receiving reports of a collision between a pick-up truck and tractor-trailer unit near the Little Pic River Bridge.

Schreiber, Ont.'s David Hamilton, 69, the driver of the pick-up truck, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger in the transport were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries. Hamilton was mayor of Schreiber at the time.
