THUNDER BAY — OPP were dispatched to the Pigeon River Border, along Highway 61, for a possible impaired driver crossing into Canada from the United States on Sunday afternoon.
As a result of the investigation and with assistance from the Pigeon River Canadian Border Services Agency, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages & further testing was conducted.
A 55-year-old male from Markham was served with a 7-day driver's licence suspension.
This is the second time this person has had a "warn range" suspension imposed - the first resulted in a 3-day suspension.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, OPP were doing patrols along Highway 130 in Oliver Paipoonge when police saw that a vehicle was in the ditch.
The officer stopped to assist. During their investigation, OPP determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages, was placed under arrest and returned to the detachment for further tests.
A Thunder Bay resident, 35 years old, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, having a blood alcohol concentration over 80 and failing to report an accident.
The accused has been released from custody and has a future date with the court.
