THUNDER BAY -- A transport truck sliding into a ditch in Shabaqua took out a pickup truck and caused the TransCanada Highway to close for half an hour on Sunday.
The eastbound transport drove off the road at the Timberland Motel shortly before 3 p.m. and as it slid, a pickup truck headed west was knocked off the other side of the highway.
No one was injured in the collision.
Danielle Morin was driving the pickup truck from Thunder Bay back to work at the Resolute Mill in Sapawe near Atikokan. She said the truck started turning into the motel driveway about 150 metres in front of her vehicle.
"He hit the ditch. The transport went flying into the ditch. The tractor flipped on its side," she recalled.
"I was trying to avoid hitting it dead-on but I clipped the back end so it flipped me into the ditch on the other side."
Morin was thankful not to have been injured but said she was driving well below the speed limit under Sunday's snowstorm.
The OPP issued a release a 3:31 p.m. saying the highway had been opened to rotating, single-lane traffic.
