(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at approximately 7:50 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), as well as Oliver Paipoonge Fire Department and North Superior Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 102 near McKenzie Road.

The driver of a 2016 Volvo tractor trailer unit was eastbound on Highway 102 when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and entered the east bound ditch.

The tractor trailer rolled over onto the passenger side of the vehicle, struck a hydro pole and became entangled in the hydro line. Hydro One was contacted and attended the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The passenger was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The tractor and trailer sustained extensive damage.

The 46 year old male driver from Calgary, Alberta has been charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

OPP are requesting the motoring public to slow down in the area as a tow company will be working on removal of the tractor trailer unit throughout the day.
