UPDATED: Charge laid after transport truck overturns on Highway 102

An accident Tuesday morning caused a power outage affecting over 900 Hydro One customers

THUNDER BAY — OPP have laid a charge of careless driving after a collision that left a tractor-trailer unit overturned in a ditch along Highway 102 just outside the shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Photos posted on social media show the transport truck was badly damaged, but police said two people escaped with minor injuries.

OPP charged the driver, a 34-year-old resident of Manitoba, under the Highway Traffic Act.

The collision occurred on the stretch of highway between Intola and Townline Road.

The tractor-trailer also struck and damaged some Hydro One equipment and a pole, leaving about 1,100 customers without power.

By 2 p.m., all customers were back online.

 

This story was updated at 4 p.m. Tuesday after OPP confirmed they had laid a charge of careless driving. It was updated again at 4:55 pm after Hydro One provided additional information.
