THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has reported one new case of COVID-19 linked to travel outside of Northwestern Ontario, with active cases rising to five.
It’s the first time the district’s active case count has risen above four since June 30.
The newest case involved a resident of the Thunder Bay area.
Travel outside of the region has accounted for six of the nine cases reported by the health unit over the past month.
There were no district residents in hospital with the virus as of Tuesday.
The health unit has reported a total of 3,348 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began. Of those, 3,279 are considered resolved and 5 were active, while the virus was a contributing or underlying cause in 64 local deaths.
