Treasure Exchange Days return this weekend

Items being given away will be left at curbside

THUNDER BAY — Many city residents will tour Thunder Bay neighbourhoods this weekend in search of items they can use and which the current owners no longer need.

The best part of Treasure Exchange Days is that everything is free.

The city-organized recycling initiative encourages residents to place gently-used items at curbside between 5:00 p.m. Friday and 7:00 p.m. Sunday.

Solid Waste and Recycling Services Manager Jason Sherband said "This is our seventh Treasure Exchange Days event. This continues to be popular among city residents, and we're excited to bring it back this year."

Items being given away should be clearly labelled FREE.

Residents may also post their items on social media using the hashtag #TbayTreasureDays.

A list of the kinds of items the city believes people are likely to be interested in includes furniture, small appliances, sporting goods, books, art, tools and toys.

Officials cautioned that it's important to keep items that are not giveaways, such as bikes, toys or tools, well away from the curb to avoid misunderstandings.

The city asks homeowners to retrieve from the boulevard anything that has been unclaimed by 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
