The Treaty 3 Police Service Board has decided to shut down its police force.
Officials with the board announced the shutdown of the police service on Friday because of financial difficulties.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada members who work as Treaty 3 officers says that the service was under funded by the federal government and that continues to be an issue for First Nation programs including policing.
But there were controversy over what was contributing to the police service’s debt as well as some disputes over wages.
The police service served a number of Treaty Three communities including Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, Emo, Dryden and Kenora.
