Trick-or-treaters will enjoy pleasant weather conditions

Thunder Bay police ask motorists to be vigilant for children out on Halloween night

THUNDER BAY — Unlike some previous years when Thunder Bay has experienced snow on Halloween, trick-or-treaters will enjoy unseasonably pleasant weather when they head out in search of candy.

Environment Canada forecasts a mainly clear sky with a high of 14 C on Monday, with the normal high for this date is just 5.5 degrees.

Although it will cool down and approach 0 C overnight, it's still more than four degrees milder than usual.

The nice weather could result in a larger number of children excitedly doing the rounds of their neighbourhood.

Thunder Bay police are asking motorists to drive with extra caution and to keep a close eye out for youngsters who may be giving more thought to their treats than to pedestrian safety.

Police are also reminding children and their parents to remember to dress so as to be seen, advising them to use flashlights, glowsticks, reflective tape or other bright costume accessories in order to be more visible to motorists.

Temperatures remain well above normal this week

After tying a record-high temperature of 18 C for Oct. 29 at the Thunder Bay Airport, the maximum temperature on Sunday fell just one degree shy of the record of 18 C for Oct. 30.

But for most of this week, daily highs are also expected to climb far above normal.

"This is pretty rare, especially the duration" of the warm spell, Environment Canada meteorologist Steven Flisfeder said.

Forecast maximum temperatures from Monday through Thursday will range between eight and twelve degrees higher than usual.

There's no precipitation in the extended forecast until Thursday night, when there will be a chance of rain.
