Twelve new COVID-19 cases in Thunder Bay area

The number of active cases reaches 100 for the first time in the Thunder Bay District.

THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District now has 100 active cases of COVID-19.

The incidence of active cases reached triple digits for the first time Tuesday, as the Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported 12 new cases, all in the city or immediate surrounding area.

Most of them have been traced to close contact with an infected person, but one case is still under investigation, and another is listed as no known exposure.

One individual among the 12 is in hospital.

The TBDHU reported one person has been admitted to the intensive care unit at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where three other COVID-19 patients are also receiving treatment. 

An analysis shows that among the dozen new cases, three involve people under the age of 20, and three involve individuals over the age of 70.

On its website, Southbridge Care Homes on Tuesday morning was reporting no change in the number of COVID-19 cases connected to the outbreak at its Roseview nursing home in Thunder Bay.

As of Monday, 37 residents and 15 staff members had tested positive.

The district of Thunder Bay has experienced 320 cases since the pandemic began, with 216 considered resolved.

A total of four deaths are attributed to COVID-19, including two residents of Southbridge Roseview.
