Twelve new COVID-cases announced

District of Thunder Bay has had 1,189 cases in March alone, more than double last year's total of 585.

THUNDER BAY – A dozen new COVID-19 cases have been reported on Monday by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

With 21 more cases considered resolved, there are 207 confirmed active cases of the virus in the district, the fewest since Feb. 19, when there were 198.

Five of the new cases are considered close contact, while four are labelled as household contact. Two are of unknown origin and the other is still under investigation.

Nine of the cases reside in Thunder Bay and surrounding area and three are considered to live in district communities.

There were no new deaths and the region’s count stands at 47.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 2,801 cases, with 2,547 considered to be resolved. There have been 1,189 cases announced in March alone, more than double the 585 announced in all of 2020.

The district’s seven-day, per-100,000 count rate is at 112.71, based on the daily numbers provided by the health unit, up slighting from Sunday’s 110.71 total.
