THUNDER BAY — Two people from Toronto face charges after police seized suspected cocaine and a handgun from a north-side home.

A search warrant was executed at a home in the 500 block of Faircrest Street just before noon Thursday as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity, police said in a Friday news release.

Police said officers who entered the home found and arrested two suspects, with a search finding suspected crack cocaine, cash and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking. The estimated value of the drugs is about $11,500, while the amount of cash totalled more than $5,000.

Officers also recovered a gun and a conducted energy weapon.

The two suspects — 25-year-old Mckhaila McKenzie and 26-year-old Keyon Shakean Smith — each face several charges, including drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and several firearm and weapons-related counts.

They both appeared in bail court on Friday and remain in custody.
