Police arrested two males, including one youth, following an early morning assault on the city’s north side.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the area of Court Street South and Red River Road at about 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 following reports of an assault that had recently occurred.

A paramedics supervisor with Superior North EMS happened to be driving in the area when he located the 39-year-old male victim being assaulted by two other males. The paramedic activated his emergency lights, and requested police and an additional paramedic crew.

The paramedic tended to the victim’s injuries, which were consistent with a stabbing, and successfully got his bleeding under control. The victim was then transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment.

When police arrived, officers searched the area and located two male suspects and completed the arrest.

Tyler ACHNEEPINESKUM, 19, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Aggravated Assault and Failure to Comply With a Judicial Release.

A 16-year-old male from Summer Beaver is charged with Aggravated Assault. He cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The accused males and victim were known to one another.

Both accused males appeared in bail court on Wednesday, Sept. 23 and were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.

The investigation remains ongoing.
