THUNDER BAY — Two people, including a 17-year-old from Toronto, were arrested after a police investigation into an alleged south-side home takeover.

Thunder Bay police said officers were sent to a residential address on the 900 block of Northern Avenue just after 8 p.m. Tuesday, after learning that an elderly tenant may have had their apartment taken over for drug trafficking activity and concerns that person could have been the victim of ongoing abuse.

Police said responding officers saw a male suspect attempting to flee from a window. He was arrested after a brief foot chase. A second male suspect was found inside the apartment.

Quantities of suspected cocaine and fentanyl were seized, police said. Paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking was also found.

The teen is charged with two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of obstructing a peace officer, and one count of being unlawfully in a dwelling.

The other accused — 33-year-old Francis Joseph Valle — is charged with two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of breaching probation.

They both appeared in bail court on Wednesday and remain in custody with future appearance dates scheduled.

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
