ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK, Mich. — Investigations are underway after the discovery of two bodies at a campsite in Isle Royale National Park, 40 kilometres south of Thunder Bay.

The US National Park Service disclosed some details about the case in a brief statement Tuesday morning.

It said park rangers received two reports late Sunday afternoon that two individuals had been found deceased in a remote backcountry campground.

Rangers hiked about 18 kilometres overnight to reach the scene, arriving there early Monday morning.

They confirmed that two unidentified people were dead.

The NPS said the cause of death has not been determined yet.

Additional ground and aviation resources were deployed to the campground on Monday.

The park service said it would provide more information as it becomes available.
