KENORA – Two men are safe after falling through the ice near Outer Bay on Saturday night.
On Sunday, Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report that two men had not checked in with family members after leaving home on Saturday afternoon on a fishing expedition.
The men were at a cabin on Lake of the Woods and were last heard from while fishing on ATVs near 12 Mile Portage.
When friends went to check the cabin it had been determined that they had not been there since Saturday.
OPP began the search Monday morning including the Marina and Trails Unit Northwest Region Emergency Response Team, Lake of the Woods Search and Rescue and an OPP leased helicopter.
On Monday, a civilian pilot assisted in the search and located the men on Picture Rock Island near Outer Bay.
The men had gone through the ice near Picture Rock Saturday evening but were able to swim to shore where they entered a cabin to seek shelter.
Both men were uninjured.
OPP remind the public to stay off the ice this time of year as conditions will deteriorate quickly.
