IRON LAKE, Minnesota — Searchers continued to look Monday for two men missing after their canoe went over a waterfall in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness near Quetico Provincial Park.

The St. Louis County Rescue Squad said the missing individuals are both residents of Minnesota.

Two other people were hurt, including one who was airlifted to a Duluth hospital with serious injuries.

They were among a party of four who were travelling in two canoes that both went over Curtain Falls on Saturday evening.

Curtain Falls is located between Crooked Lake and Iron Lake which straddle the Canada/U.S. border.

The rescue squad said multiple agencies are involved in the search which includes a remotely operated underwater vehicle and drones.

U.S. media quoted a police spokesperson as saying the canoeists had anchored at the top of the falls to do some fishing.

He said the two people in one of the canoes may have had an issue, prompting the others to go to their aid, after which they all went over the falls.
