THUNDER BAY – Two more people have died as a result of complications from COVID-19.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Wednesday announced the two new deaths, which bring the region’s total to 37.
There have been seven deaths announced in March.
The district’s case count did drop dramatically, however.
The health unit announced 46 new cases, but said a further 88 are now considered to be resolved, leaving 414 active cases.
Four of the cases are associated with an outbreak at the Walford Retirement Home, while 18 are considered close contact, 15 are pending and nine have no known exposure.
Forty of the cases are considered to reside in Thunder Bay and surrounding area, while four are in First Nation communities and two are in district communities.
There have been 2,128 in the District of Thunder Bay since last March 27, when the first case was announced. Of those, 1,677 are considered to be resolved.
According to the health unit, there are 31 district residents in hospital, 10 in the intensive care unit. The hospital also houses patients from outside the region.
