THUNDER BAY - There are six forest fires burning in the region, with one just 20 kilometres northwest of the city as the fire hazard remains high to extreme.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry confirmed there were two new forest fires in the region.

Thunder Bay number 13 located 20 kilometres northwest of the city of Thunder Bay is listed as under control and approximately three hectares in size.

A 0.4 hectare fire, Dryden number 6, is located near Edison Lake, approximately 12 kilometres southeast of Vermillion Bay and listed as not under control.

There are currently six forest fires burning in the region with one listed as not under control and the remainder are being held or under control.

The fire hazard in the region remains high to extreme and people are advised to use extreme caution with any outdoor burning and asked to avoid it if possible.

The restricted fire zone that was in place across all of Ontario was lifted last week.
