A 22-year-old resident of Thunder Bay was remanded in custody at the district jail.

NIPIGON, Ont. — A Thunder Bay man faces multiple charges after two OPP vehicles sustained extensive damage as police attempted to apprehend the driver of a stolen truck Monday night in Nipigon.

Police say the incident began with a report of a pickup truck being stolen from a driveway.

Officers located the vehicle but the driver refused to stop and continued to drive past police several times.

When OPP deployed spike belts on the roadway, two of the truck's tires deflated but the driver continued to operate the vehicle at high speed in a residential area.

He then rammed two police cars, causing significant damage to both as well as to the truck.

After the pickup became stuck in a ditch, the driver fled on foot but was arrested after a tip from local residents.

A 22-year-old Thunder Bay man faces numerous charges including theft of a motor vehicle, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired driving and driving while prohibited.

He was remanded into custody at the Thunder Bay District Jail.
