KENORA - Two inmates who tested positive for COVID-19 at a northwestern jail have since recovered, according to a statement from the Ministry of Solicitor General.

As of Friday, June 19, no additional cases have been reported according to Kristy Denette with the ministry.

“This is part of our rollout of proactive, voluntary testing for all inmates in our custody across Ontario,” Denette writes in an email.

Staff have also been offered testing for COVID-19 and as of Friday, no staff cases have been identified at the Kenora jail.

In addition to testing, newly admitted inmates at all institutions including the Kenora Jail continue to housed separately before being put in the general population area.
