Two-thirds polled praise city’s environmental record

That was one of the findings from a poll conducted in the City by IPSOS Reid. The poll also found that 95 per cent of citizens believe they are doing all they can to be good environmental stewards.

Sarah Kerton is the co-ordinator of EarthWise, Thunder Bay's community environmental action plan. The poll found that almost two-thirds of local citizens have not heard of the action plan, and Kerton said she believes Earthwise has some work to do to raise its profile.

The main suggestion from citizens who were polled was that the City focus on expanding recycling programs.

When prompted, social issues including poverty and drugs are the top concerns at 83 per cent.

The environment sits near the bottom of citizen's priorities at 48 per cent. A total of 300 people around the city were polled.
