THUNDER BAY -- A motorcycle driver was sent to hospital with serious injuries Tuesday afternoon after a collision with a vehicle at the intersection of Isabella Street and Ford Street.

Thunder Bay Police say the incident occurred at 12:20 p.m. when an SUV travelling westbound on Isabella Street failed to stop for the stop sign at Ford Street, colliding with the motorcycle within the intersection.

The female driver exited the vehicle to check on the male motorcyclist, but returned to her SUV and fled the scene westbound on Isabella Street, leaving the male driver injured and laying on the roadway.

The female is described as having blonde hair and wearing a colourful shirt at the time of the collision.

Police say the SUV is suspected to have some damage to the front passenger side bumper area.

The 60-year-old motorcyclist was cared for at the scene by individuals who were passing by. He was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The Thunder Bay Police traffic unit is now continuing with the investigation.

Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a dark coloured SUV with damage to the front end passenger side bumper and to call the Traffic Unit at 684-1276 or Crimestoppers if they have any information that would assist in identifying the vehicle and driver involved in this collision.
