Six people face charges following a recent drug bust by the combined forces crime unit.

Police wrapped up a five-month long undercover investigation code-named operation Quasimodo Tuesday. The operation ended with police raids of two city residences.

"It commenced in January of this year," said Staff Sgt. Murray Brown, the unit commander of the Thunder Bay Police Service's intelligent unit.

"It was an undercover project where purchases were made from a number of individuals in the city trafficking in controlled substances."

More than $90,000 worth of drugs and more than $5,000 in cash was seized by police. Included in the seizures were almost a kilogram of cocaine, 2.5 pounds of marijuana, 200 Oxycodone pills and some morphine pills.

In the run-up to the raids, undercover officers purchased almost $10,000 worth of street drugs from those involved.

"It's very significant. The targets are street-level sellers. However the investigation revealed who we believe to be the back end, or the suppliers, for those street-level traffickers. As a result there were two search warrants conducted and some subsequent seizures."

The five men and one woman taken into custody now face several drug-related charges.
