THUNDER BAY — As it prepared to sit down at the negotiating table with the Port Arthur Health Centre, the union representing striking Port Arthur Health Centre workers was already arranging for a possible ratification vote.

Unifor Local 229 on Monday posted a notice of a membership meeting to be held Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m., describing it as an update/ratification meeting.

The notice stated that the union's bargaining team is "optimistic that we all can find a resolution and recommendation to bring our membership back to work."

It advised the workers that "Voting may take place, you must be in attendance to cast your ballot."

Tuesday's negotiations between the two parties are the first since March.

Union officials have previously stated that their positions are not very far apart.

Approximately 60 clinic support staff have been off the job since April 9, a total of 127 days.

Unifor has scaled back picketing at the clinic following the rally that left the building shut down for three days last week.
