The uninsured driver of an SUV involved in the weekend collision that injured a police officer has been charged.

The collision took place near the intersection of Robertson and McKenzie Streets just before noon on Sunday, May 3.

An investigation found the police vehicle was travelling northbound on McKenzie Street while the SUV was being driven southbound on the same roadway. The SUV crossed into the path of the police cruiser, striking it along the passenger-side door with enough force to deploy the vehicle’s airbags.

The officer was injured as a result of the collision and received further treatment of those injuries at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

The officer was released from the hospital later that day. No other injuries were reported as a result of this collision.

A 27-year-old Thunder Bay woman was charged with Careless Driving and Driving without Insurance.
