THUNDER BAY – Elementary teachers will be back at the bargaining table on Friday with the leadership of the Thunder Bay Catholic District School board.

The board on Thursday announced mediation will resume, after several tension-filled days away that included a one-day strike followed by a one-day lockout at three senior elementary schools.

“The board is hopeful we can reach a negotiated collective agreement,” board spokesman Mike Thompson said in a release.

Teachers with the Thunder Bay unit of the Ontario Elementary Catholic District School Board have been in a legal strike position since last June and operating under work-to-rule since last fall.

At issue is the board’s internal hiring policy, which teachers would like to have more say when a hiring is made.
