THUNDER BAY -- It's about to get pretty wet in Thunder Bay.

Environment Canada on Monday issued a special weather statement for the city, forecasting heavy rain and strong winds that are expected to begin on.Tuesday night, lasting through Thursday morning.

Between 30 millimetres and 60 millimetres of rain is expected.

The storm will be the result of a strong low pressure system that will track over Lake Superior on Wednesday. The rain will spread north, reaching Pickle Lake on Wednesday morning.

Rain will taper to scattered showers on Thursday morning.

Environment Canada said it may be necessary to issue rainfall warnings as the system approaches and its path becomes more certain.
