THUNDER BAY – A vehicle crashed into a police barricade while emergency services were attending to another collision on Monday afternoon.

Thunder Bay Police Service declared Strathcona Avenue open at 4 p.m., four hours after a single vehicle crashed into a train bridge.

A  police release said a second motorist drove into the barricade while the road was being opened from the first collision.

An ambulance transported a man to hospital with non-life threatening injures in the initial collision just before noon.

Police said the car left the road, crashed into a utility pole and then spun into the concrete trestle.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue firefighters used extrication tools to help the man out of the vehicle.
